About Us
South Australian International Musicians Association is a not-for-profit community arts organisation based in South Australia. We are dedicated to promoting music education, multicultural artistic exchange, youth performance opportunities, and community engagement through music.
Our association is supported by professional musicians, music educators, performers, artists, students, families, volunteers, and community members who share a passion for music, cultural exchange, and community connection.
We believe that music is more than performance. It is a way to bring people together, celebrate cultural diversity, support young talent, and create meaningful community experiences.
Through concerts, student showcases, charity performances, cultural exchange projects, workshops, masterclasses, and community collaborations, we aim to provide inclusive and meaningful musical opportunities for young people and the wider South Australian community.
We believe that artistic excellence exists in many places, not only within major institutions. Many highly skilled musicians, independent artists, migrant artists, and emerging performers have much to offer, but may not always have access to formal performance platforms.
South Australian International Musicians Association aims to create additional stages where musicians can be heard, seen, and valued. Through concerts, cultural projects, community events, and collaborative performances, we provide opportunities for artists to share their work with the public and contribute to the cultural life of South Australia.
Founder & Artistic Director
Elsa Tian is the founder and Artistic Director of South Australian International Musicians Association. She is a vocalist, music educator, researcher, and community arts organiser whose work bridges classical music, music education, cultural heritage, cultural anthropology, and community engagement.
Trained in classical vocal performance in Germany and Australia, Elsa brings together European classical vocal traditions, Australian music education experience, and a deep engagement with Chinese cultural heritage.
Elsa is currently a PhD candidate at Griffith University. Her research draws on ethnomusicology, cultural anthropology, intangible cultural heritage studies, and ethnographic fieldwork. Her doctoral project focuses on Chinese traditional opera, music education, intergenerational transmission, and the lived experiences of young performers within systems of artistic training.
Through interviews, fieldwork, and cultural analysis, Elsa explores how artistic knowledge is passed between generations, how young performers are shaped through discipline and training, and how traditional music continues to find meaning in contemporary community life.
In South Australia, Elsa has built a strong profile as a vocal teacher and community music organiser. She has supported young singers through lessons, concerts, examinations, competitions, and public performances, helping them develop confidence, musical expression, stage presence, and a sense of artistic purpose.
Elsa founded South Australian International Musicians Association to create a professional, inclusive, and culturally meaningful platform for music education and community arts.
At the heart of Elsa’s work is a belief that music has the power to educate, connect, heal, and inspire.
